Ilya and Emilia Kabakov

Ilya Kabakov, recognized as the most important Russian artist to have emerged in the late 20th century, was born in Dnepropetrovsk, Soviet Union, on September 30, 1933 . From 1945 to 1951 he studied at the Art School in Moscow and from 1951 to 1957 Graphic design and book illustration at the V. I. Surikov State Art Institute where he graduated in 1957.

Emilia Kabakov was born in Dnepropetrovsk, Soviet Union on December 3, 1945. From 1952 to 1959 she studied at the Music School, Moscow; from 1962 to 1966 at the Music College, Irkutsk, Dnepropetrovsk (USSR); and from 1969 to 1972 at the Moscow University, where she studied Spanish Language and Literature.

The Kabakovs have received a number of honors and awards, including the Oscar Kokoschka Preis, Vienna, in 2002, the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres, Paris, in 1995, and the Award For Excellence in Arts, Appraisers association of America, Inc. NY,USA, in 2015.
